ABSTRACT

Features: “Blind as a bat, hot as Hades, red as a beet, dry as a bone, mad as a hatter” = dilated pupils, cycloplegia, ushed dry skin, fever, thirst, exocrine gland hyposecretion, decreased bowel sounds, urinary retention, tachycardia, delirium. Causes: Belladonna alkaloids, antihistamines, tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), antipsychotics, anti-Parkinson drugs, jimson weed (Datura stramonium), Amanita muscaria. Antidote: Physostigmine.
