ABSTRACT
In the previous chapter, we introduced the relaxation times T1 and T2. One of the major mechanisms that determine T1 and T2 is spin-orbit interaction, because it causes spin relaxation. It is important to understand it in sufficient detail, not only for comprehending spin relaxation, but also since spin-orbit interaction is at the heart of many spin-based devices that are discussed in Chapter 12.
