ABSTRACT
Those of us in the North concerned with helminthiasis attend meetings and workshops to devise strategies for prevention and control. Our education and professional affiliations have exposed us to the complexities of helminth biology, but not always to the complexities of human life styles. We may learn about human lymphocytes, antibodies, and cytokines, but what do we know about the daily lives of the people we seek to help? Obviously colleagues from the South, where helminthiasis is endemic, know what faces those at home, but we in the North need to remember that our version of helminthology and our plans for control may be insensitive, unsympathetic, unrealistic, and impractical.
