ABSTRACT
Hemoglobinemia
may be present and the
haptoglobin
level reduced. There is often hemosiderinuria.
Iron deficiency
may occur. In severe cases, the only treatment may be to replace the valve. In mild cases, treatment with
iron
and
folic acid
will usually prevent decompensation.
