ABSTRACT
The air distribution grate, also called the distributor plate, supports the bed materials and
homogeneously distributes the fluidizing gas into the bed of solids. This is an important aspect of
the design of the fluidized bed because beyond the distributor plate there is no other physical
means for influencing the distribution of air through the solids. Nonuniform distribution of air may
result in a number of problems; from reduced performance of the combustor or gasifier to complete
collapse of the bed due to agglomeration.
