ABSTRACT

This chapter details the design of an assembly cell in the clean room of a medical device manufacturer. The discussion focuses on technical design issues where special emphasis is given to labor cross training and labor allocation using static and dynamic evaluation models. The analysis presented is based on information obtained through on-site interviews with management and employees, through the examination of company documents, and by observing the manufacturing system in place at the plant. The study was conducted over a 6-month period that ended in February 2006.
