ABSTRACT

It is estimated that one-third of all cancer deaths in the United States could be prevented through appropriate dietary modification.

In addition, several dietary

patterns have been found to have significant health benefits. The Mediterranean diet has been linked with a reduction in CVD. The characteristics of the Mediterranean diet are high monounsaturated fat, mainly from olive oil; high consumption of fruits, vegetables, and grains; moderate consumption of alcohol; and low consumption of red meat. Another pattern that has been associated with health benefits is the “prudent pattern.”
