ABSTRACT

Although concerns were raised from time to time regarding hazards associated with the use of CCA-treated wood, the exposure scenario that gained the most attention was children coming in contact with playsets made from CCA-treated wood. This exposure scenario became a special issue primarily due to concern that the frequency and intimacy of contact by children with wooden play structures might lead to unusually high doses of CCA. Also, the question was raised on occasion whether children might be a sensitive population with respect to potential health effects of CCA.
