ABSTRACT

By definition, process means a formal document, authorized by law, directed to a person named in the document and commanding him or her to do or refrain from doing some act. Process is a form of writ, and is sometimes called a Writ of Process. The purpose of process and its service is to notify the defendant that he or she is being sued, tell the defendant the nature of the litigation, give the defendant an opportunity to defend him-or herself, and confer jurisdiction of the court over the defendant’s person.
