ABSTRACT

Biological control is the use of living organisms to control pests. When thought of this way, it is comparable, as an action that people can take, to chemical, physical, and cultural control. Its inception was the observation that living organisms regulate many potential pests in nature, so that no action by people is needed. The naturally occurring process is best called natural population regulation (although a few people call it “natural biological control,” this is a misnomer if we defi ne biological control as an action by people).
