ABSTRACT
Root-feeding larvae of scarabaeid beetles are among the most damaging turfgrass and pastures pests in different parts of the world [1]. Important endemic scarab pests include Cyclocephala spp. and Phyllophaga spp. in many parts of the Americas; Holotrichia and Heteronychus spp. throughout Asia and Africa; Melolontha, Amphimallon, and Phyllopertha species in Europe; and Anomala species in Japan and Korea. Important exotic species include the Japanese beetle, Popillia japonica; the oriental beetle, Anomala (=Exomala) orientalis; the European chafer, Rhizotrogus majalis; and the Asiatic garden beetle, Maladera castanea, in North America; and the South African beetle, Heteronychus arator, in New Zealand and Australian pastures.
