ABSTRACT

Neither the Flory nor the Prigogine approaches can lead to the type of predictions possible with the HSP approach. The many correlations and other predictions contained in this book would not be possible with these theories, as they do not separate the polar and hydrogen bonding effects independently. The Prigogine theory must be used with the geometric mean to estimate the interaction between different species. The Hildebrand and HSP approaches inherently use the geometric mean. This implies that the geometric mean is capable of describing not only dispersion interactions but also those due to permanent dipoles and hydrogen bonding.
