ABSTRACT
In this chapter we first consider the magnetic hyperfine structure in the J MJ I MI scheme, which later is needed when the impact of the external magnetic or electric fields is discussed. The latter case is of particular importance when considering ions in crystal fields. The analysis here is concluded by consideration of hyperfine structure associated with nuclei possessing electric quadrupole moments.
