ABSTRACT
Within the European Union (EU) there is a major focus on developing sustainable fisheries and addressing the environmental issues related to maintaining marine ecosystems. Many high value fish species have been over-fished or fully exploited. As a consequence fisheries are becoming increasingly subject to EU regulations1. In order to ensure the effectiveness of EU fisheries policy the catch and environmental data must be collected and analyzed accurately.
