ABSTRACT
Simulations were originally used to test machine controllers before exposing them to the challenge of real-world operation. Now, simulation is applied in a wide range of tasks in conception, design, and specification of manufacturing systems including order handling and management of supply chains. Ultimately, simulation is used for concurrent engineering and design of future manufacturing processes and equipment, to reduce the risk of development before full scale implementation.
