ABSTRACT

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) has observed a steady reduction in the quality of wildlife habitat due to invasive and noxious weeds in North Dakota. They have taken the first steps in instituting an integrated pest management (IPM) strategy to restore habitat that has been damaged by invasive species. While herbicide application is part of their IPM strategy, the USFWS recognizes that the positive environmental impacts from improved habitat could be outweighed by the negative impacts of pesticide contamination to water resources. Therefore, they also include a systematic assessment of potential pesticide contamination of water resources in their IPM strategy.
