ABSTRACT
Functional polymer brushlike structures are found in living organisms and artificial biomedical devices. Examples of natural
biopolymer brushes include extracellular polysaccharides on bacterial surfaces,
neurofilaments and microtubules with associated proteins in neurites,
aggrecan macromolecules in articular cartilage,
and glycomacropeptide “hairs” on milk casein micelles.
