ABSTRACT
Thus far, I have made predictions about how animals should respond so that they can reduce their probability of being detected and located by an olfactory predator. In reality, the choices an animal must make to avoid predation are much more complicated than I have suggested because visual predators also threaten animals, and survival is influenced by more factors than those related to avoiding detection. In this chapter, I describe some of these other factors that influence an animal’s chance of survival and the trade-offs that result from them.
