ABSTRACT
Data exploration involves data-centered query and analysis. It allows users to examine the general trends in the data, to take a close look at data subsets, and to focus on possible relationships between datasets. For some users of geographic information systems (GIS), data exploration serves as a starting point in formulating research questions and hypotheses. For others, data exploration constitutes their routine tasks.
