ABSTRACT

Since the discovery of the metallic properties of doped polyacetylene in 1977, remarkable progress has been made in synthesizing conjugated polymers with unique properties: the electronic and optical properties of metals and semiconductors in combination with the processing advantages and mechanical properties of polymers. These materials are under development for use in electronic and optical applications, including polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs), photodetectors, photovoltaic cells, sensors, fi eld-effect transistors, and lasers.
