ABSTRACT
Abstract This chapter introduces the basic principles of the polymeric second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) materials and devices. Various types of polymeric second-order NLO materials are introduced with focus on molecular design of dipolar NLO chromophores and solid-state engineering of polymeric NLO materials. Separate discussions are devoted to polymers with dendrons and molecular glasses, together with an overview of the most important device applications.
