ABSTRACT

The response of a material following its interaction with light can vary greatly depending on the strength of the incident optical fi elds. For certain materials, application of intense electromagnetic fi elds may very well alter their intrinsic optical properties. This material response can facilitate strong interaction with the electromagnetic fi elds resulting in the generation of new fi elds or modifi - cation of the properties of the fi elds themselves. This is the regime of nonlinear optics.
