ABSTRACT

Seismic spatial array data provide unique information and serve multiple disciplines in the earthquake engineering, the engineering seismology and the seismology communities. Their deployment led to a better understanding of source, path and site effects on seismic ground motions, and, consequently, to improved capabilities for predicting the seismic hazard at a site. Some illustrations of the usage of spatial array data are highlighted in the following:

Inverse problems in seismology – Spatial array data are used by the seismological community for the estimation of the characteristics of the source, the propagation of waves through the earth strata and the local site effects through inversion processes, as, e.g., Boatwright et al. [62], Hartzell [214] and Moya et al. [352].
