ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an introduction to the subject of generalized linear models. This is a relatively new area in the field of statistical modeling that was originally developed to establish a unified framework for the modeling of discrete as well as continuous data. The topics covered in this chapter include an introduction to the exponential family of distributions, estimation of parameters for a generalized linear model using the method of maximum likelihood, measures of goodness of fit, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and gamma-distributed responses.
