ABSTRACT

BLOSUM: a family of similarity matrices derived from well-conserved aligned regions in protein families (based on the BLOCKS database)

Bootstrap: in evolutionary tree construction, a technique to evaluate the reliability of the tree

PAM: point accepted mutation; measure of the evolutionary distance between sequences. Two sequences are at 1 PAM distance if there has been one accepted mutation for every 100 amino acids. It is also used to indicate a series of similarity matrices.
