ABSTRACT

Profile-based methods: fold recognition methods based on the comparison between the structural propensities of the amino acid sequence of the target protein and the properties of positions in proteins of known structure

Threading methods: fold recognition methods in which the target sequence is modeled using as templates each of the proteins in the fold library

In previous chapters, we have seen that proteins belonging to the same evolutionary family share similar structures. However, the analysis of known protein structures has revealed that proteins apparently unrelated from an evolutionary point of view can also share a similar architecture.
