ABSTRACT

Genomics is the science devoted to study of the genome. The genes of an organism are transcribed and, in general, translated into products, such as proteins that, in turn, assume a given three-dimensional structure and perform a function in the organism. We want to study them in a complete and “system”-wide fashion, understanding at which level, in which cells, and at which time the genes are transcribed (transcriptomics), of which proteins they direct the synthesis, where they are, how much there is of each of them, which post-translational modifications they undergo (proteomics), which structure they assume (structural genomics), the effect of a drug on each of them (pharmacogenomics), and so on.
