ABSTRACT

There are many published analyses, from various points of view, of data relating to eruptions of the Old Faithful geyser in the Yellowstone National Park in the USA: for instance Cook and Weisberg (1982, pp. 4042), Weisberg (1985, pp. 230-235), Silverman (1985; 1986, p. 7), Scott (1992, p. 278), and Aston and Martin (2007). Some of these accounts ignore the strong serial dependence in the behaviour of the geyser; see the comments of Diggle (1993).
