ABSTRACT

In this chapter and the following, where flocks of quadric sets are discussed, there were essentially no flocks or corresponding translation planes listed or mentioned. In this chapter, we give a description of the known infinite classes of flocks of quadratic cones. Actually, it is possible to consider infinite flocks of quadratic cones, the variety of examples is extremely large. To illustrate, let K be an arbitrary field that admits a quadratic extension K+. In PG(3,K), choose a plane containing a conic and from a point v0 exterior to the plane, form the natural cone. Just as in the finite case, a ‘flock’ is a partition of the points of the cone other than v0 by plane intersections.
