ABSTRACT
We begin by formulating the problem of interest: an elliptic boundary-value problem (BVP) in IR2. We shall follow the same steps as in 1D, i.e., discuss the classical and variational formulations, identify the algebraic structure of the problem, and discuss the equivalence with a minimization problem. We shall conclude with a few examples from mechanics and physics.
