As discussed in the previous chapters, generally three different groups of interaction of light with biological media can be distinguished: photophysical, photochemical, and photobiological. These distinctions are made based on either the physical processes or on the ultimate result. This chapter presents an overview of the photophysical interaction mechanisms, and the research into the underlying dynamics.
