ABSTRACT

The technology of electronic portal imaging devices (EPIDs) was discussed in Chapter 14.

The development of these devices has opened up new possibilities for quality assurance of

treatment technique and for verification of treatment accuracy. The clinical usefulness of EPIDs

depends on the availability of good quality images for analysis and the availability of methods

of analysing the images obtained at the computer software level. The analysis should yield a

quantitative verification of treatment quality. This verification may be in terms of patient

positioning or dosimetry.
