ABSTRACT
Unless all the equipment being used in a department is from a single software supplier, it is
a requirement that image and other data should be transferable between different computing
systems in such a way that it can be interpreted by different software. The Digital Imaging and
Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard aims to provide a standard format and has
now reached general acceptance as the standard for such data transfer. In this chapter, the
radiotherapy requirements for data transfer are considered in the context of the
DICOM standard.
