ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the basic principles that govern the application of environmental isotopes in nitrogen and sulfur cycling studies in groundwater. The most relevant questions concerning evaluation of sources (ngerprinting) and processes that control nitrate and sulfate in the hydrosphere are addressed. The rst part of this chapter will focus on nitrate studies and the second part will address sulfur cycling.
