ABSTRACT
Chapter Summary In this chapter, we set the stage for the book. We discuss the problem of software change, motivating the mixed-strategy approach. We characterize the evolution situations that we focus on in this book, and discuss their main challenges. We illustrate evolution with an example of a facility reservation system (FRS), which will be our running example in Part II. The last section guides the reader through themes addressed in various chapters of the two parts of the book.
