This chapter will examine secure heterogeneous information management and the impact of semantic Web technologies. The organization of this chapter is as follows. Some background on heterogeneous database integration and security is discussed in Section 18.2. Schema and policy integration are discussed in Section 18.3. Semantic heterogeneity is discussed in Section 18.4. The inference problem is

revisited in Section 18.5. Application of semantic Web technologies for information interoperability is discussed in Section 18.6. Summary and directions are provided in Section 18.7.
