ABSTRACT

The evaluate and plan chapter referenced the need to test updates and deployment packages for proper operations and compatibility with existing system configurations. Every update deployment consists of three or more components that must be tested, including the update, the manual and automated deployment procedures, and the rollback procedures. These tests must be conducted for each version of the update as well as each platform the update will be applied to. This means an update that applies to three different versions of the software on three different versions of the operating system requires nine test runs; multiply this times the number of different platforms and system configurations in the organization and you could end up with hundreds of test scenarios.
