ABSTRACT
Programmable networks allow dynamic customization of nodes, thus creating new network architectures and services. Software agents and active packets, middleware technology, operating systems, and dynamically reconfigurable hardware have been proposed as the mechanisms that can be employed to achieve this programmability and customization within these networks.
