Although IMS authentication procedures, security, QoS management, and charging recording processes are described in other chapters, the equivalent WLAN procedures merit a separate description here.
Wireless networks are already delivering access to computers, in IP packet data networks, using IEEE 802.1x protocol variants. Delivering voice and multimedia is the next step. Both NGN networks and Mobile networks are converging on this technology for a range of UE terminals, including voice handsets, smart phones, PDAs, “pocket PCs,” and laptops.
