ABSTRACT

A medium access control (MAC) protocol is used to resolve potential contention and collision when using the communication medium. The common channel is assumed to be shared by mobile hosts in some MAC protocols, which we do not discuss. Such protocols are single-channel MAC protocols. Some single-channel MAC protocols such as IEEE 802.118,9

standard still have some problems. The most serious problem with such

protocols is that the network performance will degrade quickly as the network load increases due to the rapidly raised contentions and collisions of transmitted packets. Some other problems also limit these typical singlechannel protocols, for instance, hidden-and exposed-terminal problems.
