ABSTRACT

Section 14.2 describes the basic power-saving mechanism of the IEEE 802.11 standard. To solve the clock asynchronism problem, asynchronous and semiasynchronous protocols are then presented. Section 14.3 reviews some power control protocols in the medium access control (MAC) layer. Section 14.4 presents two types of topology control protocols to achieve power saving: topology control by power management and topology control by power control. Finally, Section 14.5 draws some conclusions.
