ABSTRACT
As is the case with any distributed system, a protocol is required to synchronize the attendant entities for deterministic behavior. We list the properties that are desirable in such a protocol and analyze three signaling protocols — Bearer Independent Call Control (BICC), H.323, and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) — to choose one that can serve as a candidate protocol for our work.
