ABSTRACT

It was previously discussed that initial product prototypes need to be tested to identify how

closely engineered product variables match consumer needs and perceptions to find out

what is wrong with the design. The prototype testing, evaluations, and consumer input should

be used to fix what is wrong. Any one of those wrong attributes can overcome consumer

appreciation for any number of positive quality attributes. There will be trade-offs when all

product quality variables are considered, and this process is called engineering optimization.
