The process control engineer is responsible for the safe operation of a plant while reliably and efficiently producing the desired product quality. The control engineer does this by transferring the variability that otherwise goes into important controlled variables to manipulated variables and less important controlled variables. In order to meet these objectives, process control engineers use a complete knowledge of the process to attain the most desirable performance.
