ABSTRACT
Steroids are compounds with a cyclopenta[a]phenanthrene skeleton (Figure 13.1). Methyl groups can be present at C-10 and C-13. An alkyl side chain may also be present at C-17. Some typical examples of steroid structures, relevant to the present discussion, are given in Figure 13.2.
