ABSTRACT

Electrospray ionization (ESI), and to a lesser extent atmospheric-pressure chemical ionization (APCI), has given a major impetus to the analysis and characterization of biomolecules like peptides, proteins, oligosaccharides, lipids, and nucleotides. The state of the art of the LC–MS analysis of oligosaccharides is discussed in this chapter. The focus in the discussion is on technology rather than on detailed results with particular glycans investigated. Examples of various approaches are discussed, without intending to be comprehensive. The focus is predominantly on oligosaccharides derived from glycoproteins.
