ABSTRACT
The importance of membrane proteins is perhaps best illustrated, on the one hand, by their abundance and diversity, since about one-fourth of the genes in the genomes of several species appears to encode for membrane proteins.2 On the other hand, many disorders are linked to membrane protein malfunction, and more than 70% of the currently used medicines are directed toward this class of proteins.
