Plants contain a wealth of compounds which function as coordinators of plant growth and
development and are referred to as phytohormones, plant hormones, or plant-growth
regulators (PGRs). These naturally occurring organic compounds influence various
physiological processes in plants such as cell elongation and cell division. They do this at
concentrations far below the levels at which nutrients and vitamins normally affect plant
processes.
