ABSTRACT
In Chapter 3, we saw that Hooke’s law predicts a linear relationship between simple stress and simple strain. In this chapter, we extend this elementary concept to two and three dimensions. As before, we will restrict our attention to small strain. The resulting relations then continue to be linear between the stresses and strains.
