ABSTRACT
Rings, coupling links, chains, and eyebars commonly occur in structures and machines. These are closed, multiply connected structural components. In spite of their geometric simplicity, analysis of these members is complicated due to static indeterminacy. Even strain energy methods are tedious and difficult. In many cases, analyses can be simplified by neglecting direct and shear stresses in comparison with those due to bending.
